The Reading Agency

"I like the idea of the Challenge because it's such an accessible way of engaging adults."

We are running the Six Book Challenge for the first time in 2009 - and so far we're the only library service in the Republic of Ireland to do so! We've registered 80 people already but hope for over 100.

We're working with a range of partners. These include our local literacy project Word Aid which runs classes in the community. The tutors are really interested. They don't use the library much at the moment but are planning to take their learners on a visit.

We're also working with other local groups which focus on getting people into employment, a group catering for Sudanese refugees and a voluntary organisation for people with disabilities called SOS.

I like the fact that there isn't a prescribed list for the Challenge and that people can choose anything to read. We're using the Quick Reads and also the Open Door series published in Dublin.
