Ninety-nine ESOL students from Tower Hamlets
Ninety-nine ESOL students from Tower Hamlets signed up to the Six Book Challenge through the Idea Store, Whitechapel. Library staff made 50 class visits with books from the Skills for Life section, resulting in over 500 books being loaned by the end of the Challenge period. Seventy students completed the scheme with their certificates being presented to them during two 'award' events, organised by the Tower Hamlets College ESOL Team Leader as part of Adult Learners' week.
"The Challenge has been a great success here, resulting in increased student confidence in reading, higher literacy rates in Tower Hamlets and vastly improved Skills for Life book issues. We are already looking forward to taking part in Six Book Challenge 2010."
