Quick Reads author launches Challenge in Watford
Journalist and author Mick Dennis visited the Watford campus of West Herts College on 22 January to launch the Six Book Challenge in Hertfordshire. Compered by presenter Victoria Cook from BBC Three Counties Radio, the evening was organised by the library service together with the college and the Watford Learning Partnership.
Feeling inspired by Mick's honest account of his own struggle with reading, several members of the audience signed up for the Challenge there and then. They also joined in a book discussion with the BBC RaW book club which meets monthly in Watford Central Library.
25 people took part in the Challenge through Hertfordshire Libraries last year and librarian Fiona McDonald hopes that many more will do so in 2009. Although, as she said about last year's participants: "The success cannot really be measured in numbers but rather in the value to the individuals who took part."
