Full impact report for Six Book Challenge 2008

88% of those surveyed said they gained from participating in the Six Book Challenge. 61% said they enjoyed reading 'a lot' after completing the Challenge compared with 41% at the start. 60% identified gains in their literacy skills - a benefit endorsed by tutors. And 94% reported a sense of achievement.

These are just some of the key findings from the full evaluation report now published on the Vital Link website which demonstrate the way in which the Six Book Challenge can support, inspire and motivate adults who want to improve their literacy skills and get into reading for enjoyment.

The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills funded The Reading Agency to develop and pilot impact indicators which could be used with learners undertaking the Six Book Challenge. We commissioned adult learning consultant Sarah Grylls to develop a methodology for evaluating the impact of the Six Book Challenge which we piloted during the first year of the national scheme. The report is the result of that pilot exercise.
