Adele Geras recruits more readers in Rochdale
To celebrate World Book Day, Rochdale Libraries invited Quick Reads author Adele Geras to join two different groups and their tutors at Wheatsheaf Library.
The first came from Gateway, a day centre for adults with learning difficulties. They visit the library regularly and 14 members have signed up for this year's Challenge. The second group were students who attend an ESOL class held twice a week at the library run by the Shamwari (meaning Friend) Project, an organisation that works directly with asylum seekers and refugees.
Everyone enjoyed meeting Adele who spoke enthusiastically about her life as an author and her involvement in the Quick Reads initiative. The evaluation forms for the event will be completed at the students' next sessions so that they have the opportunity to practise their skills and discuss what happened on the day.
Last year 30 readers completed the Six Book Challenge through Rochdale Libraries. So far this year 63 people have enrolled with numbers boosted by this event when 20 new participants signed up.
